Syllabus for SSC CGL Exam

The SSC CGL examination is structured into four tiers, each with a distinct focus. Below is a detailed breakdown of the syllabus for each tier:

Tier I - Computer-Based Examination:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Puzzles, Matrix, Word Formation, etc.

  • General Awareness: Current Affairs, History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy & Scientific Research of India and its neighboring countries.

  • Quantitative Aptitude: Simplification, Interest, Averages, Percentage, Ratio and Proportion, etc.

  • English Comprehension: Spelling, Fill in the Blanks, Phrases and Idioms, One word Substitution, Sentence Correction, etc.

Tier II - Computer-Based Examination:

  • Quantitative Abilities: Number Systems, Fundamental Arithmetical Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistical Charts.

  • English Language and Comprehension: Reading Comprehension, Synonyms-Antonyms, Active/Passive Voice, Para jumbles, etc.

  • Statistics (only for specific posts): Collection and Representation of Data, Measure of Dispersion, Moment, Skewness and Kurtosis, etc.

  • General Studies-Finance and Economics (only for specific posts): Fundamental principles and basic concept of Accounting, Finance Commission-Role and functions, etc.

Tier III - Pen and Paper Mode:

  • Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi: Writing of Essay, Precis, Letter, Application, etc.

Tier IV - Computer Proficiency/Skill Test:

  • Data Entry Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test: Applicable tests based on post requirements.

Eligibility Criteria for SSC CGL Exam (Bullet Points)

Nationality:

  • Candidate must be either:

    • A citizen of India

    • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan

    • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India

    • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India

 

Age Limit:

  • The age limits typically range from 18 to 32 years, varying by post and category.

  • Age relaxations applicable as per government norms for reserved categories.

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university or equivalent is required to apply.
